UNHCR Nigeria: Emergency Coordination

Preparing for an emergency involves risk monitoring, scenario-based contingency planning, and establishing how to deliver assistance and protection. UNHCR leads the Protection Sector Working group and co-leads with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) the Camp Coordination Camp Management/Shelter & non food items sector in Nigeria. Coordination of actors in the humanitarian response is important to ensure that there is no duplication of activities. This also ensures that protection gaps are addressed, coordinated effectively and guarantees protection mainstreaming in the humanitarian response. Coordination utilizes the rights based approach for the optimization of resources to provide timely and efficient intervention to people of concern (PoC). UNHCR works within these sectors to provide solutions that support the government’s architecture and as such helps to mobilize resources and creates avenues for development in the North East.
